This webinar/course is designed to provide introductory training for nurses and other medical professionals interested in the human endocannabinoid system and medical cannabis. Covers dosing, charting, safe uses, and more.
>> This class aligns with The Joint Commission Behavioral Healthcare & Human Services safe use of medicines goal (2021).
The content of this course focuses on improving patient safety and meeting the patient where they are with compassion and expertise. Providing additional education on current health trends and new laws allows the nurses to address and anticipate a greater number of health needs (Rouleau et al., 2017).
Cannabis has been medically legal in several states across the nation, including recreational cannabis. Nurses and medical professionals regularly encounter those who consume cannabis in its many forms. It is essential for accurate, unbiased, and safety information be made available to all who encounter any of the product(s) available.
It is especially critical for nurses and medical professionals to be able to describe any effects among vulnerable populations. Without accurate knowledge of how to use the products, how much to take, or how the product interacts with their other medications, it can cause complications resulting in the consumer going to the emergency department to relieve symptoms (Zhu., H., & Wu, L. T., 2016).
Continuing education is a way to meet the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) overall goal to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems within which we as nurses work (QSEN, 2003). Providing additional education on current health trends and new laws will allow the nurse to address and anticipate a greater number of health needs (Rouleau et al., 2017). For patient safety and the safe use of medicines, continuing education must include instruction on the use of medical cannabis and its interactions with other medicines/supplements.
